The first and original Omnia fragrance cane out in 2003, it was a rich and spicy oriental created by Alberto Morillas, and brings together spiciness and gourmand notes without becoming overpowering or overly foody. Omnia Crystalline, released in 2005 attempts to rework an already very accomplished scent by using it as the base for something slightly different. Alberto Morillas was also behind Omnia Crystalline, which is a fresh woody scent with notes of nashi pear, bamboo, balsa wood and lotus flower. First impressions may lead you to believe that this updated version has precious little in common with the original. It seems thinner, more watery and fresh, in fact on first impressions I really thought it wasn’t worth the effort of trying. This however is not entirely the case, Omnia Crystalline is indeed fresh and pale, and it is thinner and less substantial than the original. The pear is very delicate in the beginning, not at all sugary and rich like you might expect. It is delicate and nuanced and is really all about the musky woods, and gentle greens. It is much more of an acquired taste than the original but having spent some time with it now I have to say I am very fond of it. It is almost unisex in nature being that it is not nearly as feminine as the original but I’d be more than happy to wear it in the summer due to its freshness and lightness. The staying power is good, the scent is unique and most importantly it is not cloying in the slightest.
