Developed by perfumers Lucas Sieuzac and Emilie Coppermann for Givenchy. It is a new fragrance, one of a pair that comprises Givenchy Play and Givenchy Play Intense. The brief behind this pair of fragrances was to take the note Caribbean amyris wood and create one mainstream scent and another more polarizing one. Givenchy Play is the mainstream one and contains the following notes: bitter orange, bergamot, grapefruit, mandarin orange, Caribbean amyris wood, coffee flower, black pepper, vetiver and patchouli. Givenchy Play opens with a big warm wave of citrus containing that blend of four different citrus fruits it is complex and has both sweet and sour accents. The citrus opening continues for a while and becomes increasingly warmer and sweeter until it begins to settle and allow the next notes of wood and vetiver through. Plays centre is primarily one of pepper which is quite strong and a little synthetic smelling. In the final stages it warms up again and becomes a more conventional, non-polarizing, stock standard men’s fragrance with citrus and light musk
