Gucci Envy Me is Gucci’s flanker perfume to their highly praised 1997 original Gucci Envy. The basic brief for this perfume must have been to make a scent that could somehow be associated with the original, but have it be able to appeal to much more customers. Gucci Envy was a very quirky scent, not your typical floral in any respect, whereas this addition to the envy line is. In many ways the only thing that ties these two scents together is the fashion house that commissioned them, the line they belong to, and the fact that they both have flowers in them. Where the original Envy started off cold and sharp Envy me is bright and fresh and even a little sweet. This is not an eventing perfume in any sense of the word. In fact wearing it when the sun isn’t out seems even a little silly considering the bright freshness it exudes from the get go. The scent kicks off with a vague floral brightened by a touch of citrus and a touch of pomegranate and pineapple. The fruits quickly settle leaving a floral bouquet, centered on jasmine that seems to bloom as soon as the last traces of citrus have dried away. In the bottom end you get pale musk and sandalwood with still a touch of jasmine discernible somewhere in there. The sillage starts off good but then fades and the scent wears closer to the skin the longer you wear it. The lasting power is also a bit weak in my opinion. This one was a strange decision to pair with the original Envy, which was bold and strong and quite synthetic in places. Envy Me is far more mainstream, very nicely done and likeable enough, I think I was just waiting for something a little stranger.
