Lacoste Challenge was released in 2009 and is a fresh, clean and minimal scent. As you might expect it opens with a sharp and slightly metallic note of lemon. This is by far the strongest of the opening notes but is also accompanied by tangerine and lavender. The tangerine takes some of the edge off that shrill metallic note if you wait around for a few minutes and sweetens the opening a touch while blending with the richness of the lavender. The heart of this fragrance is sheer ginger, retaining the zest of the opening and carrying it forward throughout most of this fragrance’s development. Indistinct spices also make an appearance towards the latter half of the heart and delicately pave the way for the base notes to come in and round things off. The base is quite pale, it is supposed to feature ebony and teak as well as rosewood but all you get is a sort of warm pale resin. The lasting power, as with other Lacoste scents is less than perfect and the sillage while good is a little inconsistent. All in all this is a very good fragrance, especially considering how good value for money it is. It is fresh, clean and lively, not groundbreaking in the list but slightly more interesting than what we have come to expect from the generic men’s fragrance. I like it and just the cheap price makes it worth adding to your collection
