Rochas Man is one of those consummate male fragrances that you really have to love. One of my favorite gourmands out there it opens with a wonderfully lively accord of lavender and bergamot that I just love. The lavender really does a good job of toning down the effect of the bergamot so the opening doesn’t really come across as citrusy at all. There is also this persistent coffee note present that even though it comprises part of the base, it also manages to make its influence felt throughout the fragrance. The result is that it comes in fresh in the top notes and rich and sweet in the tail. The great thing about this scent is that it handles the gourmand genre with a subtlety that is sadly lacking in many other gourmand fragrances. It isn’t like a food fight in a chocolate factory I should say. It is subtle and subded. The chocolates and coffees and vanillas are all present and accounted for but they don’t shout at you and other passers by. As a result I think I’d be perfectly comfortable recommending this to people who aren’t great gourmand fans. The longevity is great, the sillage is perfect and it will grow on you each and every time you wear it. A great male scent
